After serving in the military decades earlier, James had always been fiercely independent. He lived alone in his Issaquah home after his wife passed away and remained active well into his seventies.

But as arthritis worsened and mobility became more difficult, everyday routines started to feel overwhelming. Cooking meals took longer. Showering safely became a concern. His daughter Megan, who lived in Bellevue, began visiting more often.

“I knew he wanted to stay in his home,” Megan said. “But I also knew he shouldn’t be alone all day.”
